Tro — Pey — Ah. A small and beautiful town, hewn into sandstone cliffs on the Calabrian coast of Italy. It’s a place that’s special to us and the inspiration for Tropea.

Tropea was founded by Ben and Kasia, supported by a dedicated and passionate team. Ben and Kasia met training as chefs at University College Birmingham in 2010, followed by working and travelling around the world, developing their passion for food and wine. They worked in some incredibly inspiring venues, before coming back to Birmingham in 2016.

They were very fortunate that the 2020 lockdown gave them the space to think, and the time to realise a collective dream – to open a restaurant of their own – Tropea.

The story began by taking over Boo Boo Coffee in 2021, following a modest transformation. We’ve since been able to evolve, improve and expand into next door to become double fronted restaurant that stands now. The evolution of Tropea has been possible only because of the unwavering support of our loyal guests, many of whom have become friends. We are a true neighbourhood restaurant and hope to remain a part of the community for many years.
