About us

Tro — Pey — Ah. A small and very beautiful town on the Calabrian coast of Italy. A place that’s special to us and the inspiration for Tropea.

Behind Tropea are Ben and Kasia supported by a dedicated and passionate team. Ben and Kasia met training as chefs at University College Birmingham in 2010, followed by working and travelling around the world, developing their passion for food and wine. They worked in some incredibly inspiring venues, before coming back to Birmingham in 2016.

They were very fortunate that the 2020 lockdown gave them the space to think, and the time to realise a collective dream – to open a restaurant of their own – Tropea.

Tropea began in 2021 by taking over the small Boo Boo Coffee site. We’ve only been able to expand and evolve into the Tropea that stands now because of the unwavering support from our loyal guests, many of whom have become friends. We are a true neighbourhood restaurant and hope to remain a part of the community for many years.
